Description
The Ambu bag system is a self-inflating device that typically consists of the following primary components:

- Self-inflating Bag: The main flexible chamber, usually made of silicone or SEBS (Styrene Ethylene Butylene Styrene) material, which the user manually compresses to force air into the patient’s lungs and that automatically re-expands when released.
- Patient Valve (One-way valve): This valve controls the flow of air, ensuring that air travels from the bag to the patient during compression and allows the patient’s exhaled air to escape into the environment (not back into the bag).
- Face Mask: A soft, pliable mask designed to fit snugly over the patient’s nose and mouth to create an airtight seal for effective air delivery.
- Oxygen Reservoir: An optional but common attachment (either a bag or a tube) that connects to an external oxygen source (e.g., an oxygen tank) to deliver high concentrations of oxygen (up to 100% FiO2) to the patient.
- Pressure-Limiting Valve (Pop-off valve): A safety feature, especially crucial in pediatric and infant sizes, that opens to release excess pressure and prevent lung injury from over-inflation. An override cap may be included for situations requiring higher pressures.
