Description

Sensing Part/Sensor: This is the core component, typically made of silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl), which provides stable and excellent conductivity and converts ionic signals from the body into electrical signals the machine can read.

Conductive Gel: A layer of electrolyte gel (either wet or solid/dry) is in contact with the skin to reduce skin impedance and ensure a reliable signal flow. For ETTs, high-chloride “wet” gels are often used as they hydrate the skin quickly and produce fast, clear traces, even with sweating.

Adhesive Material: A strong, skin-friendly, and often hypoallergenic adhesive is crucial for keeping the electrode securely in place during movement, exercise, and sweating to minimize motion artifacts (signal noise).

Backing Material: This flexible layer can be made of foam, fabric, or a breathable film. Foam backing offers water resistance, while non-woven fabric can allow the skin to breathe.

Connector/Snap: A snap or a grabber mechanism connects the electrode to the lead wire, which transmits the signals to the ECG machine. Some electrodes have a radiolucent (X-ray friendly) carbon or plastic snap for use during imaging procedures.
